Our History

Many companies talk about treating customers as family, but at Chileen Painting, we guarantee that you are family. Fathers, sons, and brothers have been running and working for the company since 1940.  Three generations of family and clients passed down decade by decade.  By working with us, you’ll join a long history of satisfied customers.

The Chileen family has been in Minnesota since the early 1900s.  The business was started not long after two Chileen brothers, John and Delbert, were discharged from the Army after serving during WWII. Living in Chicago at the time, they needed to make a living and started at the local Woolworths store.  Seeing the potential and demand for a good local painting business, the two decided to start their own company.

The newfound business took off from the beginning, becoming very well known during their time in Chicago. The pair had a soft spot for rehab projects and older, more historic buildings. A business cannot run without the hard working people that we are, so John and Delbert enlisted the help of their five brothers, who all played a part in contributing towards the labor aspects of the company.   After many years of having a prosperous painting business and even owning their own paint shop, the two older Chileen brothers retired. But thankfully the story doesn’t end in Chicago.

Lester Chileen, one of the brothers who worked for Chileen Painting during his summers off from school, married Delores (and are still married today) and decided to continue his older brothers’ business.  Lester brought Chileen Painting to the Brainerd Lakes area in 1962 and it continued to flourish in our wonderful northern Minnesota country. Lester and Delores had six children, two of which continue to carry on the business.  Brian continues the business in the Brainerd Lakes Area, while Greg successfully continues the business in the Twin Cities area.

Greg brought Chileen Painting to the Twin Cities metro area in the 1990s after his service in the United States Marine Corps to focus on the restoration of older homes.  Greg has a special talent for bringing the original beauty back to historic homes that are in the Minneapolis and St. Paul area.

Chileen Painting will restore your home to its original beauty or it will help discover new beauty in your home.  Keeping with the family tradition, Greg’s son now is a mem of Chileen Painting, just like Grandpa did.  And so the fourth generation of Chileen Painting begins.
